Brazos Valley Council of Governments - Criminal Justice Department
The BVCOG Criminal Justice Department receives planning funds from the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office (CJD). With these funds the staff facilitates the development and maintenance of a regional criminal justice community plan; participates and helps to facilitate meetings for the Brazos Valley Amber Alert Network (BVAAN) (http://www.bc911.org/Amber) and helps local governments and organizations research and apply for federal, state, or local grant funding opportunities. The staff also can provide foundation funding information as well.
The following is a list of the grants awarded through the Criminal Justice Divison of the Governor’s Office (http://www.governor.state.tx.us/divisions/cjd) for the FY 2007 funding cycle.
VOCA — Victims of Crime Act Fund —Provides funding for services for victims including: responding to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims; assisting victims in stabilizing their lives after a victimization; assisting victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system; and providing victims with safety and security.

VAWA — Violence Against Women Act Fund — Provides assistance in developing and implementing effective victim—centered law enforcement, prosecution, and court strategies to address violent crimes against women. VAWA also funds the development and enhancement of victim services in cases involving violent crimes against women.

421 —State Criminal Justice Planning Fund — These funds provide nonprofit organizations and state and local applicants with funds for a wide range of prevention, diversion, information sharing, victims services, training, and other projects designed to reduce crime and improve the criminal justice system.

SDFSCA — Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act — CJD award’s these funds to nonprofit organizations and state and local applicants to create neighborhoods free of drugs and weapons, to foster individual responsibility, to promote respect for the rights of others, and to promote school attendance, discipline and learning.
