Ombudsman program advocates for nursing facility residents. It is authorized by state and federal laws. The long-term Care ombudsman program specially trains and certifies volunteers who advocate for quality of life and care for residents in Texas long-term care facilities such as nursing homes and personal care homes. Ombudsmen identify, investigate and resolve complaints made by or on behalf of residents. They support the development of family and resident councils. Resident and family served by using the talents of specially trained volunteer. To promote the quality of care, the program seeks to coordinate professionals' advocacy through organizations that are interested in long-term care and the elderly right issues and regulatory agencies.
Certified volunteer ombudsman receives 34 hours of intial certification training from a professional staff of ombudsman, completes a 3-month internship, and 12 hours of continuing education per year. For more information click on www.dads.state.tx.us/news_info/ombudsman/index.html |
